Dealer Tipping
In casinos, the majority of a dealers wage will come through tips that players leave them. Tipping the casino staff is by no means an obligation, but if a player feels that the dealer has been friendly or helpful, it is always nice to show gratification by leaving a tip.
Some of the old school gamblers may recall stories of tipping a dealer in order to gain an edge over the casino, where they would comp the dealer for not shuffling the cards when the next hand is played. Though this may have happened in some of the old school establishments, it does not happen in today’s casinos. In today’s casinos, there are strict guidelines and protocols that a dealer must stick to when playing the game and the house is always watching. Casino players should always remember that dealer tipping is not a way to bribe the dealer. A tip is simply a way of showing gratification for the service and support that the dealer is providing to that players gambling experience.
It is customary for craps players to put bets on the table for the dealer. The way a craps player goes about dealer tipping it putting a bet down and using the phrase “its for the boys!” which is the casino code word that a player is putting bet of for the dealer. Players can also tell the dealer that a bet goes “both ways” which means that if a player wins at that bet the dealer keeps half of the profit and the other half is for the player. Players should make sure the dealer knows what they are talking about when placing a bet for them as not all dealers will know the standard lingo that is used at the large casinos in America.
Roulette tips for the dealer are probably amongst the rarest tips simple because for a player to win but they need to usually hit a 35 to 1 dealer. When a player hits their desired number, it is usually appropriate to give the dealer one chip in return for the good luck a player has received. Casino players should note that they are not allowed to give dealers chips into their hand because dealers are not permitted to accept money directly from a players hand so a good way to give the tip is to place it on the table and tell the dealer that it is a tip for them.
